Science has decided that the kilogram is now anachronous, and in need of a lovely new retrofit. Two competing theories are vying to be the new canon, and I won't tell you too much about them lest I run the risk of subversively educating, so all you need to know is that we want Avogardo's Model to win because it has a much neater name than "Planck." We're not pirates or algea, afterall.

Intellectually, I'm all for changing the model for which we base the kilogram, if its currently built around an unstable base, but I have to wonder-- what happens to the drug trade? Will the base price for a kilo of pot go up or down?

I do all of my business with pot on the ounce level, kind of side stepping this GramGate by virtue of not buying too high of quantity or too low of quantity, but I'm sure that there are folks who do deal with it in the larger weight who will either have to pass the savings on to me or charge me more for their new overhead, and that could lead to some interesting situations.

Will it fuck with old school potheads forever? By 2007 the change looks to be in place; does this mean that all of the dealers have to go out and get new scales if they're relying on digital metric ones now? Will the phisheads cry foul?

Seems like a sticky-icky situation to me.

Well damn. You silly sons of bitches. How did ya'll miss Taint? Its not that far a drive-- and I worked my shit. You guys shoulda, too! Phoenix, Alex, and Mike Cooper did. Flordia, New Jeresy, Boston, Virginia? You all missed out. Just sayin'.

I'm spellbound by both Grey's Anatomy and Desparate Housewives. The former for its very real portrayal of how relationships go down (as I remember), and the latter for the sheer candytainment. Well written, engrossing. I'm on edge for each new episode. Markie was right, we are at the new coming of television.

This was a banner week for bruises in the land of Mike. I mentioned the twin extra long, and I guess I should have referenced its girth, too. Sore Mikey. Then, on Tuesday, I was jumping a fence to get to Columbia Plaza (go have a look, and see that big highway thingie? thats got a fence)... well, it had just started raining, and my foot slipped. As I was launching myself. I fell and flew about four-ish feet and also busted my ass on the pavement. I also hit a spokey-spoke.

Black and blue, strawberried, poked more than once and bleeding, I was a tore up fatty. I was crampy, bloody, as well as mostly jovial in re: to the whole matter. Lets be honest, kiddies, its a good story. When I was finally able to climb stairs like a normal human being, I awoke with a gunky eye. Apparently, three months of one contact set will do that to you.

I'm all healed now, my vision is fine (though the glasses are natch), and I can behave like a normal member of society. I, like any well trained mutt, have righted most wrongs and maybe even fixed the root source of all these problems.

Lack o' Lube? Uncheck. Fence Jumping? Uncheck. Permacontactcs? Uncheck. Pavlov, of course, had a bell. I have pain and suffering.

On the bright side, I'm really cute in my glasses.

A very cool guy who makes everyone laugh. Once you meet him, you will want to be his friend right away. He is super cute and very good-looking. He has amazing taste in music, clothes, food, everything. Every girl secretly wishes that he could be her boyfriend and everyone knows he likes commitment (and just broke up with his gf). However strange and weird he may be, he's perfect. In his own little way, he is perfect.

I've been sharing Hatha Yoga techniques with the office of Housing and Urban Deveopment for almost eight years.
Their depth and skill grows, consistently. The staff changes, and there is always someone new. I love meeting people where they are (metaphorically and literally) and gesturing them towards better health of body, mind, spirit. I'm so enriched when the gesture becomes action and the action becomes ... Something greater.
I feel privileged to watch consciousness expand in unexpected places, with unsuspecting people.
Three things I've been told this week:
"I'm not scared anymore" "I was able to use what I learned during labor" "I didn't know I could do that."

Mister Gates done been told us, y’all.

His footnote on how preparedness also helps create a more “just” society while also keeping the economy ~3 trillion dollars stronger maybe is more than a footnote.

I have made a pivot towards online offerings— but the question becomes more existential. As someone who functions as a manual therapist *and* a facilitator/ of an indigenous practice that changes the mind and body radically... is my vocation dispensable? My life’s work?

Surely not— but we do need protecting.

And we done been known.

I wanna point you to my Integrative online Functional Anatomy Training Program. Link in bio.

In September, I’ll be launching a 10-month integrative online Functional Ashtanga Training. We dive *deep* into functional anatomy, contextualized yoga humanities, and a collection of the most potent pranayama and meditation practices I have discovered in my 20 years of dedicated practice. I’ve spent two years developing this program, which includes 4 functional joint assessment for each participant (so you can measure your progress), 150+ 20 minute learning videos (I’m still recording!), curated readings, and measured learning objectives (homework + quizzes). Of course, I’ll have office hours. It’s capped very, very small for this first cohort, and costs 3,000— but I’m gonna take 500 off if you sign up early. With a $500 deposit, I’ll offer a monthly payment plan for 10 months (with no upcharge— gross).

Your friendly reminder about people in the health/fitness
industry. Three studios I taught at personally, no longer
physically exist. So if and when we "come back", it's not
actually that easy for me to just "jump back in". Oh... and
those studios you love? They may not be around when all is
said and done.
It's such a lose-lose situation for everyone and the lack of
help from Congress is laughable and while I've been lucky to
pivot for part of this pandemic, not everyone is so lucky.

The Yoga Club’s very first ad will be right here.

When I first started coming to DC, I would go to a little coffee house at 22nd and P (love to Soho!) to hang out, spending time reading all of my favorite (read: free + edgy) DC newspapers— The Blade, the City Paper... and Pathways.

Each of these publications has struggled to stay in print over the last 10 years. I likely don’t need to tell y’all about the rapidly changing face of media— and how it has adversely impacted queer journalism, alt-newspapers, and trade-zines.

For y’all that haven’t been here for 30 years, lemmie tell ya: Pathways is the OG DC natural living/holistic health trade publication. Last year, Pathways didn’t have a print publication (due largely to the pandemic... and the changing landscape of readership).

One of the reasons i love DC so much is precisely because i was able to find my tribe— and so much of that is due to publications like this. Who knew that the local publications i loved growing up I’d eventually get to work with?

We went with Pathways first because it’s owned by my bestie’s bestie— and you know I love family owned and friend-ran.

For 7 years, my yoga program, DC Ashtanga, was fiercely independent and grassroots — and while we remain firmly non-commercial, the Yoga Club (my new practice space) wants to help others find community while also supporting and elevating others in our community.

While DC ashtanga will remain a grassroots practice group (as it always has been), we’re now proudly in residence in our new home at theyoga.club, and it is a pro ledge to help Pathways relaunch in print, so that other little woo woo gays can find a copy... and a tribe.

in image4 years since the WHO declared COVID-19 a
pandemic. Many of us never dropped our shoulders
after that. Some of us literally can't breathe the same.
COVID was not the great equalizer we naively hoped,
but it was an event of mass clarity. Changed how we
saw people and government. There are friends and
family I still don't talk to, not after I witnessed risks
and privileges so different from mine. Did I overreact?
The official death toll is 7 million, but related deaths
are immeasurably higher. Is 4 years enough to mourn?
When will I get over streaming my grandmother's
funeral on a shitty signal on Facebook Live?
COVID fractured our version of reality. How could
some of us believe in a disease and others not? See
masks and vaccinations so differently? And how do
we consider millions dead and disabled but
also...good things? How many origin stories start with
"during the pandemic, I..started my business, learned
to (blank), got pregnant, got this dog, fell in love."
COVID changed our center of gravity by 6 feet, forced
us to cross the Rubicon. What parts of us stayed in
that lockdown, and what parts were set free?

To the ashtanga yoga community: I’m cheering for you.

Ive recieved a lot of shame and pressure from my colleagues over the years about my open approach — an approach that is now considered the gold standard in circles that respect both the science of strength and conditioning and yoga as an indigenous insight practice.

Am I mad? No. I’m too busy being blessed.

Since my parents needed full-time care for a while (and my clientele has been largely in person) ive been busy. My book got backburnered for a few months. I want the world to have it.

Im so happy that people who dont have the same caretaking work that I have are available to usher in the conversations i want to be having. And I hope my little talking heads have been valuable to you guys. Sometimes my colleagues get a bit myopic and territorial. I’m appaled by that, especially since my approach dismantles that.

As the federal government’s yoga consultant, ive been busy. You get it.

Since i work with people in real life, these systems and processes I have refined over the last 10 years have been siloed. I want them out in the open.
