in imageI think one of the most wonderful books that Martin Luther King
wrote was "Strength to Love."I always liked it because of the
word "strength," which counters the Western notion of love as
easy. Instead, Martin Luther King said that you must have
courage to love, that you have to have a profound will to do
what is right to love, that it does not come easy.

Emma Stone
I just want to say: I met Emma when we were in Zombieland together
in 2009 and since then I write little magazine articles and little things
on McSweeney's and she's like the only person — and I'm including my
mom here — who would take little screenshots of it over the last 15
years and send me things like, "This is such a funny line." And at the
time — and definitely still - she was like the most famous person
I knew. And yet the most dedicated to encouraging me as a writer.
U think abouther not asmyproducer but as a fairy godmother that l am
riding the coattails of her goodwill. And I think it's so important that
someone like her, who is so unbelievably successful in mainstream
movies, looks for people like me and Julio [Torres] and Jane
[Schoenbrun] to try and produce our movies with all the goodwill that
she's amassed so rightly and deservedly over the last several years.
Thanks, Emma•

As an empath, I struggle to find the words to articulate
my heartbreak for the rising toll of individual human
beings presently tangled in this risky, political power

an empowering endeavor, working towards healing and
understanding, with the goal of becoming a unified

ought to be in priding ourselves on protecting our most

The call to split the TQ+ from the LGB is not new.
"Acceptable Gays" have tried to distance themselves
from Queers, Transgender and Non-Binary folks since
before those words existed. Yet, Acceptable Gays were
not spared in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s, no matter
how subtle, rich or famous they were. They still got
their ass beat, still outed and arrested under sodomy
laws, still lost their jobs, their names were still printed
in the papers, they still lost their homes under moral
clauses, still couldn't marry or serve. Acceptable Gays
still died of AIDS in droves.
Today's "LGB Gays" are not enlightened or
groundbreaking free thinkers, no matter what social
media says. They're clichéd bootlickers with no sense
of history. They believe this split would spare them but
our persecutors are just working their way backward

Lucia Barker, 25, describes her inclination to look up her friends' apartments as "a morbid curiosity" but says the habit has quelled her tendency to compare her own financial situation to those of her peers, particularly when it becomes clear a friend's standard of living is made possible through factors other than their salary—namely, money from their parents. New York Magazine recently reported that nearly half of parents in the US provide financial support to their adult children and that, among American adults under 43, only about one-third support themselves without help from their parents. But despite the fact that parent-subsidized lifestyles have become commonplace, a sense of shame and secrecy surrounding generational wealth persists. "There's such a lack of financial transparency in our world," Barker says. "It's just helpful to know that other people's lifestyles might be because of some other reason."

DC COUNCIL STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO PRESIDENTIAL
ANNOUNCEMENT
WASHINGTON, DC - This is a manufactured intrusion on local authority. Violent crime
in the District is at the lowest rates we've seen in 30 years. Federalizing the Metropolitan
Police Department is unwarranted because there is no Federal emergency. Further, the
National Guard has no public safety training or knowledge of local laws. The Guard's role
does not include investigating or solving crimes in the District. Calling out the National
Guard is an unnecessary deployment with no real mission.

Our local government regularly partners with the federal government. The federal
government plays a role through the United States Attorney's Office prosecuting violent
crime, the Senate confirming judges to serve on our courts, the federal supervision agencies
to follow up with people who are released on parole, and Congress passing a budget fix so
that DC residents can spend their own tax dollars to pay our police and firefighters the
wages they deserve. Taking over our police department and deploying hundreds of National
Guard members is not the hard work of public safety - it is a show of force without impact.
It is our job to regularly look at our laws and ensure they are serving our residents'
interests. That's what we did in 2024 when the Council came together to pass Secure DC,
an omnibus with over 100 interventions to drive down crime. We did it again when the
Council in June 2025 passed Peace DC legislation that puts the city on a path to more
sustainable safety. And in the last two years where we have been laser focused on driving
down crime, we have decreased violent crime by nearly 50% of what it was, yielding the
lowest violent crime numbers our city has seen in 30 years.

Who won’t let you criticize them? Ready for another organizational red flag? Leadership that won’t allow criticism, of course!

If we don’t encourage a multiplicity of viewpoints, we are inherently narrow sighted. If you must hold the same view as leadership in order to get a say, you are being controlled. I do not like echo chambers. An organization that creates one on purpose is not only inherently fragile, but in a predicament of its own making. Again, who wont stand for criticism? Authoritarians.

Diverse thinking is a good thing. More on youtube.

This law made it a crime to speak out or "make fun" of the
government and its leaders. This meant that even telling a joke
about Hitler could be considered a malicious attack on the
state.
• The Treachery Act (1934): This expanded on the 1933 law by
criminalizing any remarks that caused "severe damage" to the
welfare or reputation of the Third Reich or the Nazi Party.
What's notably different here is that Trump isn't using legal

He'll sue you personally. He'll start a DOJ investigation that

The hypocrisy from Trump's FCC Chair
is staggering but unsurprising.
It should be clear by now that to
MAGA, protecting freedom of speech
was always secondary to wielding the
power to punish anyone who questions
this regime.

Free speech is the counterweight—it is the
check on government control.
That is why censorship is the
authoritarian's dream.

To fill in the gaps that institutions and
power structures of dominant culture
overlook or deliberately avoid:
• TRUTH when there are lies or silence
* CARE where there is neglect
* RADICAL IMAGINATION where there is
stagnation, dead ends, and repitition of
oppression
• LIBERATION where there is oppression
• CONNECTIVITY where there is isolation
& HOPE where there is despair
* SALVE for wounds
* ACKNOWLEDGEMENT for those who feel unseen

Immanuel Kant
In his early work, Kant embraced
German rationalism. In 1781, Kant
stepped back onto the stage with the
Critique of Pure Reason: shifting
the center of knowledge from the
world to the mind that knows it.
No longer was the mind a passive
mirror of reality. Instead, reality
always appeared through the
architecture of our perception.

in imageWhy great minds change
their own
These examples remind us that
true critical thinking begins at
home. To interrogate our own
assumptions, to stay open when
experience, dialogue, or
suffering presses against us —
that is philosophy at its deepest.
In our polarized age, where
doubt is mocked as weakness,
their lesson is urgent. Can we
welcome change in our own
thinking - even delight in it?

Walking side-by-side with someone,
or double-wide formation, is a rule
breaker. Walking triple-wide, or
three people across, who are taking
up all the space on a narrow
sidewalk, making it impossible to
pass, is even worse. "I would say
that's the number one offense,"

in imageYou're not alone in seeing the dysfunction. Find the people who can also see it. Create spaces—even informal ones—where honest conversation is possible. Some of my most powerful teaching happened in hallway conversations after class. People would share what they were noticing, validate each other's perception, realize they weren't crazy for seeing what they saw. Community isn't about creating another system. It's about creating conditions where truth-telling is possible. 3. Practice Non-Identification You are not your role. You are not your title. You are not the system. Every time you come to your mat and just breathe—you practice remembering this. You practice being the awareness that sees the system rather than being consumed by it. 4. Work at the Smallest Scale That Matters Don't try to reform the entire organization. You can't. The system will eat your efforts and
5. Know When to Leave

Sometimes the most intelligent response is to exit a pathological system.
Not every system can be reformed from within. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is leave—find a different job, find a different teacher, build a different community.
This isn't failure. It's discernment.
Several of my federal students eventually left government work. Not in rebellion, not burned out, but consciously—recognizing that the system wasn't serving their development anymore, and choosing something different.
The practice gave them the capacity to see clearly, which gave them the courage to choose differently.
