I just bought a gay cop thriller for my kindle called "Cut & Run" -- I read the sample and was hooked. Uh oh.
I encourage y'all to read "Cut & Run" -- finally a page turner with queer characters, damaged and unapologetic.
I am LIVING this trashy romance novel life.
âI believe Trump is actively misleading Americans when he says the Russians did not attempt to help his election chances and denigrate Secretary Clintonâs electability. Cyber espionage against American political organizations and cyber intrusions into our electoral boards are not partisan issues, they are American issues. I call on every Member of Congress who has been briefed on or read the classified report to tell Trump that he needs to tell the truth to the American people. At stake is not just our national security, but the very fabric of our democracy.â

I liked "Sticks & Stones" (the second book in the cut & run series) even more than its predecessor. Taking the buddy cop/mystery/romance and shifting the setting made for compelling reading. Introducing a family that reminded me of mine added to the joy.
Finished book 5 (of 9) in the "Cut & Run" series, and now I'm starting to fear finishing... and not spending time with these characters anymore.
Finished the "Cut & Run" series. So thoroughly enjoyed all 9 books!

A follow up/ companion piece to the article on gay loneliness. This rings true to this reader-- but I'm left with a curious quarrel-- does it all boil down to privledged folks using privledge to get ahead and feeling the sting of its effects?:
"In the community, we have a name for these people: âA-gays." They enforce the social rules of a certain kind of urban gay space, implicitly or sometimes explicitly excluding other types of gays (and almost all queer people) who donât fit their strange standards. They are the donors and board members of the big gay nonprofits, the setters of the mainstream gay agenda.
Crucial to understanding the A-gays is seeing their cultural and economic complicity in the systems that both benefit them and, ironically, make them feel miserable. Please do not misunderstand: No one is responsible for suicide or mental illnessâthese are both complex phenomena that deserve to be addressed regardless of whoâs experiencing them. But part of taking a problem seriously is understanding where it comes from. If Iâm rolling my eyes at Hobbesâ piece, itâs not for lack of sympathy; itâs just the same way I might roll my eyes at an article about miserable hedge fund managers that didn't interrogate their exploitative profession and the way it might contribute both to their sadness and their privilege."

Must be nice to not need an iPhone, what with that fancy office and computer you have...
at taxpayer's expense.
Please, tell me how much I don't need my smartphone (as a self-employed individual without an office.)
Don't worry, it's still a 5s. I'm waiting for the 8. Just like I'm waiting for universal health care/affordable care for all of our citizens.
Don't be shocked if I get the phone first.

"The No. 1 rule is: Donât. Take. Life. Too. Fucking. Seriously. That is the No. 1 rule. I learned it early on and, initially, I was really heartbroken because I was taking life seriously. I couldnât believe that my parents and people could be so cruel and so heartless. For a sweet, sensitive soul, there are stages of the evolution . . . once you uncover lifeâs cruel hoax, you become angry and you become mad as hell and then you become bitter. And then you become very cynical. Unfortunately, most sweet, sensitive souls stay in the bitterness and the cynicism. But the next level beyond thatâif you can go beyond thatâis laughter and irreverence . . . you can laugh, you can dance, you can seek out the places where you can blossom and expand, because you wonât get tied down to what other people have to say about what youâre doing."

Maybe the cicada is my spirit animal? Some of y'all are monarchs, others painted ladies-- that's well and good.
"They have an exceptionally loud song. Most cicadas are cryptic, singing at night to avoid predators. The periodic cicadas spend most of their lives as underground nymphs, emerging only after 13 or 17 years, which may reduce losses by starving their predators and eventually emerging in huge numbers which overwhelm and satiate any remaining predators.
Cicadas have been featured in literature since the time of Homer's Iliad, and as motifs in art from the Chinese Shang dynasty. They have been used in myths and folklore to represent carefree living and immortality."

'Reading that snippet of condescension made me think back to the suit-wearing Wall Street type in Geraldoâs 1990 audience who played foil to the carefree club kids, telling them, âWhen it comes to whoâll lead our country, prepare our country to go into the 21st century, I donât want any of you in leadership roles.â RuPaul replied with only a grin, but it was clear he did have a leadership agendaâone thatâs still in progress today. âEveryone at home touch your TV set,â he said back then. âThis is the most important show youâll ever watch.â'

I wish Roxanne Gay had spoken with me before including me in her book "Bad Feminist." Maybe sent me a copy. I dunno.
The overlap between being objectified by people of power and situations where assault of the sexual variety occurs runs the risk of allowing "me too" to be viewed from the cheap seats as a bit of a toothless tiger.
Sexual harassment occurs constantly. I have been sexualized and demeaned to some degree in every job I've had as an adult. I suspect almost every woman/gay men have, too. I know almost every gal in town has been catcalled, for sure.
On a hierarchical level we have given passes to strong men taking sex acts by force. The amount of people who voted for a man who literally propagated grabbing woman by their pussies and doing whatever he wants with them needs addressing. "They'll let me," he says.
At least 16 women have publicly accused Trump of forcibly attempting to kiss, grope and have sex with them. He is on the record saying he forcibly touches woman.
This is not sexual harassment-- this is sexual assault.
What kind of accountability do we reasonably expect men in power to have when we give them a "yes, but" along with a "me, too" So glad we're speaking up: remember this in 3 years, fam. The more voices we raise, the more potential we create.
Take that "Me, too" and talk to you husbands, wives, sisters, brothers, and kids.
Me, too.

I worked with her a number of years ago, shortly after the d-lists first season. She was incredibly professional and kind. The club's AC was broken, and her face was melting. My co-workers were passing out from heat exhaustion. No hyperbole. As the DC summer got hotter and swampier, the working conditions got worse. it's so easy to lose your cool under the lights, but she still did her thing and gave her all.
Like my friend Jarrett noted, she didn't thank those that supported her in this journey, and that gives me hella pause.

Me? Last called a faggot: thanksgiving morning, out walking the dog. Responding promptly, ðTold the guy to get his ass over here so ðcould stuff it like a turkey. Reading Chelsea Handlerâs âUganda Be Kidding Meâ and Carrie Fisherâs âWishful Drinkingâ back to back was a great idea.
https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/14404-night-work/
âNight Workâ is one of my favorite albums of all time by my favorite band of all time. This review is basically saying that music by gay people for gay people is not palatable to a straight audience and therefor not inclusive enough.
This is why Iâve been so fucking pissed for 2017 and will carry that fire into 2018. This is why Living Single isnât on Hulu. Because I have participated in fucking straight people culture without complaint and have had to pull teeth to get straight people to even consider coming to a queer event (other than the pride parade-- but who doesn't love a parade? I digress ). This is to me self evident of the fact that straight folk (especially, but not limited to, white ones) think their activities are normal, and gay folks activities are not. No wonder gay folk dont want y'all in their safe spaces-- folks act like theyre on safari or doing something lurid. No gurl, it's a fucking Thursday and the drinks are cheap.
You know who does come to queer events when I ask? My non-white female friends. They also know how to treat the space (ie, putting away any urge to behave in an entitled manner). You know who came with me to see the Scissor Sisters tour Night Work? Wanna know who watches Living Single?
This article, and this situation, is garbage. If this made your asshole pucler, then maybe now you know why your gay friends low key think youâre the worst and if youâre white, your non-white friends low key think youâre even worse than that. But Facebook is an echo chamber, so if you made it this far, youâre probably not the problem.
Back to the pitchfork review:
âIf the cover of Night Work did not clue you in, let's just state the obvious right now: This is a very, very gay album. Whereas the first two Scissor Sisters records found a way to translate specifically gay subject matter into big-tent camp that opened up their appeal to anyone with a taste for colorful dance music and 1970s radio pop, their third album isn't quite as inclusive. They are no less tuneful, but their aesthetic and lyrical themes are more firmly rooted in gay culture, to the point that many straight listeners may find themselves feeling like outsiders looking in. Instead of presenting a queer pop sensibility for the masses, they've gone deeper into their subcultural niche."
âNight Workâ is one of my favorite albums of all time by my favorite band of all time.
