Now my feeling is that our hope lies in reality
because the culture of empire - the capitalist,
hedonistic patriarchal culture is driven by fantasy -
an addiction to fantasy. To the extent that we can
encourage and promote facing realty we have
concrete reasons to hope.

We’re a week in to the 30 Day Core Fitness Challenge and the 2024 Teaching Immersion over at @ashtanga.tech — and I’m just over the moon. Ashtanga Tech is the ashtanga education platform I built, designed for practitioners and professionals. She’s meant to facilitate development in a variety of different components of the ashtanga yoga system— from core fitness to meditation. It’s amazing to see so many of you guys using it already, and I’m just so over the moon. Can’t wait to see you in homeroom.

1. Understanding Body Scan Meditation: Learn how this practice helps in acknowledging and releasing stored tensions. It's a key tool for developing deeper awareness of your physical self.
2. Finding the Right Spot: Lie down in a quiet, comfortable place. Allow your body to feel supported by the ground beneath you.

in imageHere's this man, for example, that most people remember by what
is a very poetic " Have a Dream" speech, but not by the deep,
penetrating social and political analysis he had about
imperialism. And why? Because, in a sense, we censor that
Martin Luther King. Even, like, a Martin Luther King holiday is
constructed to make him more palatable.

in imageI keep thinking of Nex Benedict stumbling out of
that bathroom. Every Queer knows why the school
didn't call an ambulance or the cops. How fast
would the cavalry be if the blonde homecoming
queen got jumped 3 to 1?
We can trace this to anti-Trans laws and
the
damaged b-tch over at Libs of TikTok, to "the
rhetoric"...but these deaths are so much older. Our
school system has rarely been "safe" for Queers. I
was Nex's age when my bully outed me in front of
the entire class. "He's a f-ggot and we all know it."
My teacher just stood there and shrugged like it
was my fault. Now I have to act shocked and
outraged, call this a "wakeup call" so more straight
people give a sh-t. What I am is numb. Another
one. Another reminder that Queer culture was
built on concussions.

in imageIve forgiven the teacher who let me fend off my
bully alone, even if I can trace Nex's death to him
too. I'll even forgive the 3 children in that bathroom
who just ruined their lives. I don't have time for
them today. I'd rather remember my other teacher.
The "bachelor" who read us poetry. Who, thinking
he was alone in the classroom one day, got into a
sweet argument on the phone with his "roommate"
about what couch to buy. How he whispered "We
can talk about it when I get home?" Who pulled me
aside atter my grandfather died to say "Crying is
not a weakness.'
Nex's death sits in our tummy next to memories of
child violence. Maybe this will spark some change.
America needs sweet-faced sacrificial lambs to
care about Queers. Ask Matthew Shepard's ghost.
As we struggle through rage and numbness,
remember a teacher who helped you survive.
Thank them in your mind.
War should make us grateful as well as angry.

in image4 years since the WHO declared COVID-19 a
pandemic. Many of us never dropped our shoulders
after that. Some of us literally can't breathe the same.
COVID was not the great equalizer we naively hoped,
but it was an event of mass clarity. Changed how we
saw people and government. There are friends and
family I still don't talk to, not after I witnessed risks
and privileges so different from mine. Did I overreact?
The official death toll is 7 million, but related deaths
are immeasurably higher. Is 4 years enough to mourn?
When will I get over streaming my grandmother's
funeral on a shitty signal on Facebook Live?
COVID fractured our version of reality. How could
some of us believe in a disease and others not? See
masks and vaccinations so differently? And how do
we consider millions dead and disabled but
also...good things? How many origin stories start with
"during the pandemic, I..started my business, learned
to (blank), got pregnant, got this dog, fell in love."
COVID changed our center of gravity by 6 feet, forced
us to cross the Rubicon. What parts of us stayed in
that lockdown, and what parts were set free?

in imageMany cultures believe that an eclipse is the sun and the
moon being devoured by mythological creatures. In Chinese
mythology, it's a dragon; in Norse and Korean, it's wolves. For
the Cherokee and Vietnamese, it's a frog. For the Maori in
New Zealand and Hindus in India, it's a demon. For the Pomo,
it's a bear. They all created "noise rituals" to scare away the
dark: whistling and screaming at the sky, or banging on
drums or pots and pans.
We've mastered noise rituals in our modern world, too. We
created plenty of places to yell at one another about things
we don't understand or can't control: elections, race, gender,
genocides, the climate. Even if yelling is more likely to move
the heavens than change another person's mind.
The Batammaliba in West Africa believe an eclipse is the sun
and moon in a celestial conflict. They perform the opposite
of a noise ritual: the community gathers for rituals of
forgiveness. Elders mediate conflicts, gifts are exchanged,
followed by feasts and music. They show the sun and moon
reconciliation by example.
There's no ritual big enough to heal current divisions. But we
can create rituals of absolution for just ourselves, quietly
warding off the demons of our own shame with a meditation
that says, "I may not understand what is happening, but life
is short, and the universe is infinite...maybe 1 really am just
doing my best in the darkness."

Here’s some stuff that made me stop and feel.
I save a lot of things that make me laugh, think, and cry. Here are a few of them. I have to get them off this phone! Im hacking my old Wii U for fun, and I’m out of memory for games and I just can’t add any more to my iCloud in good conscience.
I’m inspired by @gayunclemario2 — he’s always posting fire memes— but also because I saw this one episode of Geraldo when I was a kid with a bunch of club kid freaks. I was maybe 14-15? I kinda knew I was one of them, but didn’t know really what that meant… to be honest, i now know it just meant that I was gonna make bold outfits, listen to Madonna remixes and teach yoga — all while trying to help other people find freedom from this ridiculous trap we call society. Mario was on that episode (or maybe it’s all a fever dream now).

"Homophobia, transphobia, heteronormativity,
patriarchy, sexism, gender and sexuality-based
violence; these are realities that we have to
grapple with all around the world. It's very
dangerous to pathologize Palestinian society
as uniquely homophobic or that homophobia
is endemic to the society without this broader
context, as well as without understanding
the ways that life under brutal military
occupation exacerbates homophobia within
Palestinian society as well. In order for us to
deal with questions of how queer people are
treated in Palestine, we have to address the
broader landscape of the denial of freedom to
Palestinians more generally speaking."

more about rolf:
@toncigulisija_shivarishi
toncigulisija_shivarishi My dear ashtanga yoga teacher Rolf
Naujokat, Narayan Puri left his body the day before yesterday.
My heart is heavy even though I feel my soul is freed. Only his
presence in this world has always given me strength to push
my way. Ashtanga has not been a part of my life for quite
some time. It is completely irrelevant to how I feel about him.
Neither did it matter to him what physical practice of yoga a
man does, nor did it to me.
Rolf was a disciple of Santosh Puri who was Naga Baba. He
initiated him into that sacred order 45 years ago and gave
him mantras and rituals. He spent 2 years with his Baba in
Haridwar.
After that he left his kutir and found ashtanga yoga he had
been teaching for the rest of his life.
Rolf was a being of light. Over the 10 years period, as long as
I used to come to him, somehow he was always the same.
The body slowly aged, its insides did not really change. Every
time you would come we would carry on as if we had never
parted.
His presence radiated softness, love and eternity, with which
he touched the hearts of many people. Most of such beings
from the Baba order have their own lilac, game, through
which limits the number of people who will be around him.
Marcy, Rolf's wife did the duty well. I think they had a blast.
Dear friend and teacher, you will always remain in my heart

"I'm from San Francisco. I know folks who've,
you know, been in the system and they'll just
say flat out, 'Look, like, she's a cop.' On the
other hand, what's always been really telling
for me is that there are a lot of folks within
San Francisco's criminal justice reform
system, a lot of organizers, a lot of community
groups that are pretty ride or die for her. Like,
they don't agree necessarily with all of the
decisions she's made, but they recognize that
she was one of the few people to even give
them a seat at the table."

rooted in the American ideal of masculinity. This ideal has
created cowboys and Indians, good guys and bad guys,

in imageI was always told Id never make it to 40.
Sex education, bullies and movies said Id die of AIDS
or loneliness. There were no sitcoms about older Gay
men (a "special episode" if I was lucky). My script was
written: Id be cast as "angsty, closeted teen
then
addicted, suicidal hustler then
sexless,
funny,
fashionable sidekick (no older than 35),
white picket
husband or creepy, flaming villain. Then I vanished.
Why would I argue or expect more? So many heroes
died by 40. My addiction and suicide rates are so much
higher than my straight counterparts. My own
community's ageism suspends youth and virility by
any needle, pipe,

action movie bridge, broken and perilous.
I am 43 today. My need for sexual validation has
simmered (a little bit). The chips on my shoulder are
melting off and the scars of gay bashings look kinda
cool. I earned rights and built tools unimaginable to
my ancestors. What I sacrificed and valued means the
next generations will not need to start from scratch.
Audiences will not forget they've seen us. I no longer
need to buy or sell scripts about invisible men. In our
fatherless culture, my elders call me baby and my
children call me Daddy.
Iam the last First Generation.

.There's not gonna be that traditional "this is the single"
kind of a vibe, because we don't live in that world now.
And you, the label, should recognize that, and you should
recognize that this fanbase that I have built are so hungry
for me and my peers and our kind-of slightly left world of
pop/dance music... they're hungry for us to succeed. And
that doesn't mean that we have to do any pandering to any
other side of the industry. We just have to do it for them.
And we have to make them feel so special, because they
are, because they've championed me and us for so long.

Meet the Democrats using porn ads to
convince Trump voters to stay home
Wally Nowinski and Matt Curry, two regular
voters with tech backgrounds, discussed how
to help defeat Donald Trump. Nowinski saw
potential in porn sites. They formed a
political action committee, raised $100,000,
and spent $25,000 on ads, reaching 5 million
views in October, aiming to persuade Trump-
leaning, porn-viewing voters to sit out the
election. Trump hasn't endorsed a
pornography ban, though allies have backed
conservative policies calling for one.
