shucks shucks shucks. Missed my alarms this morning. After the intensity of the past two days' practice, I'm particularly sad to miss sharing in the Ashtanga Yoga Center, Washington DC's community energy. Looks like it'll be Virginia Lung's style of double-header: Crossfit this AM, then a morning primary in my studio at Balance Gym (didja know that they got space heaters for the yogis?).

When tempted to skip a pose today in my practice, I thought of what Peggy shared: "The ashtanga yoga system should never be confused with "power yoga" or any whimsical creation which goes against the tradition of the many types of yoga scriptures. It would be a shame to lose the precious jewel of liberation in the mud of ignorant body building." -- Mr. Jois

I didn't skip.

"'Practicing alll aspects of yoga destroys the impurities so that the light of knowledge and discrimination shines .' It is unfortunate that students who have not yet matured in their own practice have changed the method and have cut out the essence of an ancient lineage to accommodate their own limitations." --Mr. Jois

What good is Yoga? "Eradicating the instinctive weaknesses of human beings. For some it may be quick for some it may be slow. But change has to take place, transformation has to take place, whoever it may be, in whatever average intellectual condition they are." -- BKS Iyengar

Mid City Yoga works with a solid handful of federal agencies' fitness departments. A government furlough means that subcontracted fitness professionals won't get paid. Be nice to your broke local fitness professional (*hint*), k?

8 limbs. I live within discipline. I fail often with cleanliness. This morning is not a practice of the third limb of yoga (asana/postures), but the second: observances. Today, my yoga practice is that of cleanliness (saucha). For those that know me: wish me luck.

"Cloudy, with biiiiiig silver linings" was the forecast this morning: <3 practicing in Dupont and making it to the end of primary right as Erica Martinson (a bff) walked up. <3 returning to crossfit. <3 leading a class and being able to thank my "sub" in person

had a pretty amazing day-- An awesome lift this AM, fabulous classes, a coffee date with my dear teacher and friend Kristen Krash, a fantastic conversation with my students about what "yoga" means to them ("awareness of the breath, body and mind. freedom. work."), and a killer CrossFit class. I mean, really. Today rocks. MichaelCycle shipped, too. I know, I can't stand me, either. 🙂

Was on my way to practice, and realized I forgot my towel. Checked my phone, and saw that my cleanin' folk were coming at 8:30am. Today's first practice will be from the first two limbs. I'll get to the third a little later.

Funny, I lift by myself and practice in a group-- a change from three months ago. Before you (I) judge my lack of morning mysore practice, I have to remember that Urdhva Dhanurasana is not the only way to feel Kundalini rise-- and that I will miss my weightlifting whilst in mysore.
