New Yeaaaaar's Eve & New Yeeeeear's Day-- You're only a-wish a-way! So excited to celebrate the end of this year and the launch of the new one. 2011! - 2011! - 2011!
The link's whack. Is it really that rude? I've done it. @[617270401:2048:Erica Martinson]'ll attest. @[587699668:2048:Jordan Farray] has, too, right? Airport/airline yoga?
Today is the shortest day of the year. Tomorrow, things start getting longer. I can't believe I'm looking forward to winter. This might be the first time ever.
When I was 17, I scored well on the ASVAB and had some pretty great options with the Navy's nuclear program. My school was not paid for, and I was a proud American. I couldn't lie. I couldn't join. I couldn't be prouder that things are different today than they were yesterday.
I realized I hadn't shared this until I went to re-read it via Vanessa King's profile. I've dedicated the next year to exploring the Ashtanga traditions-- and am so far in looooove with it.
For those that are curious, Peg does a killer job of talkin' bout it. Give it a look (if only to read a little about what I dedicate my mornings to, and why I don't get to go out on weeknights anymore).
Doctors who carried out a stem cell transplant on an HIV-infected man with leukaemia in 2007 say they now believe the man to have been cured of HIV infection as a result of the treatment, which introduced stem cells which happened to be resistant to HIV infection.
"Republicans denied adequate health care to heroes who developed illnesses from rushing into burning buildings on 9/11. Yet they will stop at nothing to give tax breaks to millionaires and CEOs, even though they will explode our deficit and fail to create jobs."
sometimes moods just show up unexpectedly-- good and bad. I find Lemonjelly's album " '64-'95 " to be darn good at quelling the latter and bringing the former.
This weekend I listened to a wonderful lecture by a teacher from Charlottesville, Kate Hallahan. I wanted to share the link with you all. You can check out the podcast here.
“This week’s feature is a lecture on the History and Philosophy of Yoga with Charlottesville Yoga Teacher,Kate Hallahan. Kate is the Founder of the Guerrilla Yoga Project which offers Donation-Only Yoga Classes to all sectors of the community and Co-Director of theCharlottesville Yoga School. Kate has studied extensively with Kofia Busia, one of the world’s foremost Iyengar teachers, as well as other senior teachers in both the Iyengar and Anusara Traditions. Kate is devoted to her daily yoga practice and has a background deeply rooted in the philosophy of yoga.”
A teacher who specializes in Guerilla yoga, the antiquity of the practice, and who has an Iyengar background? My kind of lady. I hope you enjoy.
Wait wait wait... YOGA is back on the taxing block and IHOP gets a permanent tax break? You've gotta be fucking kidding me. No wonder we have a divide in this city between obesity and super healthy. Shit like this.
To quote Rob: "The National Portrait Gallery, in a moment of great ignominy, caved to John of Orange and his little lackey yesterday. The Post's art critic rightly assesses that this is just the first salvo of what we can expect to be an extended Kulturkampf from those purportedly keep-the-government-out-of-my-business Republicans who will control the lower chamber of Congress come January. God help us:"
found the card his friends gave him when he left the DC Improv to start his own business. Choice quotes: "You will be Great Yoga Master <3 Melba Davis " "Bend over and Show me something Nasty!! Love ya Baby, Kazi Jones" "My lifelong running partner. Thanks for helping me find my version of adulthood. Love, Bryson Turner ps: tell sebastian hi" sooooo many good ones.
I got a deep tissue massage today with Alan Correa. In the past, I've found massage to be relaxing, calming, and mentally therapeutic. This one was so deep I felt my fingers release when my forearms were pressed. I will go again. Highly recommended for athletes and other body workers.
From my twitter (michaeljoelhall): Kept my tears inside during sivasana. A day of gratitude and abundance. An inner bliss. So much love I might rent at the seams. #Mysore
Michael's Math Problem: 9 Bottles of Wine ÷ (Cristyn Cram + Lauren Twohig + Joe Heaton + Katie Schmidt + Michael Joel Hall) = Friday Game Night with a remained of 0.
Can't make it to (the amazing) Wanelle Kellee Charles's 6pm Power Yoga Class tonight? Then give my agni-igniting and sweat producing vinyasa at 7pm a go. Or, ya know, do both.
New research hints that schizophrenia and other mental illness may be caused by "endogenous retroviruses" stored in our DNA and activated by common infections such as CMV, toxoplamosis, or the flu

On Gymnosophists (naked philosophers)-- Alexander [the great] asked how a man could be most loved; "If," said the philosopher, "he is most powerful, and yet does not inspire fear." Ahhhh, ancient yogis.
Okay, so I worked particularly hard today (like A-game hard), and neither my back, shoulder, nor wrist are bothering me. Awesome. Awesome awesome awesome. (...I'm exhausted, however.
finds that presumed bigotry is a bigotry of it's own. I told you the line was back here 'cause some other broad was bitching in my ear-- not because you're black. How dare you.
woke up in bed with his four-legged best friend in his arms, no shoulder pain to speak of, and was able to take a deep breath sans pain. Happy Sunday, indeed!!!
