‘Night Work’ is one of my favorite albums of all time by my favorite band of all time. This review is basically saying that music by gay people for gay people is not palatable to a straight audience and therefor not inclusive enough.

This is why I’ve been so fucking pissed for 2017 and will carry that fire into 2018. This is why Living Single isn’t on Hulu. Because I have participated in fucking straight people culture without complaint and have had to pull teeth to get straight people to even consider coming to a queer event (other than the pride parade-- but who doesn't love a parade? I digress ). This is to me self evident of the fact that straight folk (especially, but not limited to, white ones) think their activities are normal, and gay folks activities are not. No wonder gay folk dont want y'all in their safe spaces-- folks act like theyre on safari or doing something lurid. No gurl, it's a fucking Thursday and the drinks are cheap.

You know who does come to queer events when I ask? My non-white female friends. They also know how to treat the space (ie, putting away any urge to behave in an entitled manner). You know who came with me to see the Scissor Sisters tour Night Work? Wanna know who watches Living Single?

This article, and this situation, is garbage. If this made your asshole pucler, then maybe now you know why your gay friends low key think you’re the worst and if you’re white, your non-white friends low key think you’re even worse than that. But Facebook is an echo chamber, so if you made it this far, you’re probably not the problem.

Back to the pitchfork review:

“If the cover of Night Work did not clue you in, let's just state the obvious right now: This is a very, very gay album. Whereas the first two Scissor Sisters records found a way to translate specifically gay subject matter into big-tent camp that opened up their appeal to anyone with a taste for colorful dance music and 1970s radio pop, their third album isn't quite as inclusive. They are no less tuneful, but their aesthetic and lyrical themes are more firmly rooted in gay culture, to the point that many straight listeners may find themselves feeling like outsiders looking in. Instead of presenting a queer pop sensibility for the masses, they've gone deeper into their subcultural niche."

Today, I took my toys down to Anjuna beach to watch the sunset. A beach cow accosted me and attempted to eat my shirt, and a Big ol’ rottie puppy came for kisses.

Strong people are useful. 💪🏻 Carrying my water jug up the stairs this week was the easiest it’s been in as long as i can remember! I don’t tend to have to change the jug at the water cooler, so the only time i get to lug one is when I’m in India. Year after year, i watch my perception of the jugs weight changes. Sometimes she’s heavier, sometimes(like now) lighter.
One of the marvelous things about my gym-rattiness and my yoga practice is how they can nurture and inform each other. oh sure, sometimes they can be at odds, but i credit my workouts for keeping me injury free on the job.
This year i brought a suspension training rig with me to play with. I thought I’d share with you guys some of the stuff I do.

Scooter hair and new sunglasses— two of my absolute favorite “little things” about my time abroad. After watching Atomic Blonde on the plane, 👁 knew 👁 was due for a pair just like these.
My favorite spot for an egg sandwich. This year, in the interest of making sure my nutrition doesn’t suffer, I’m asking for three eggs. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Chia porridge made with coconut milk and topped with papaya, red bananas, strawberries, blue berries, goji berries, and my absolute favorite: chikoo. Oh! And dried coconut. A true yogi’s breakfast at #beanmeup

At #DCAshtanga, we value cultural exchange, and denounce bigotry, appropriation, and oppression of all stripes. Here 👁 am doing forest yoga, not to be confused with Forrest Yoga.
You’ll note I’m doing my Ashtanga practice in the forest (which is not Mysore style, it’s just ashtanga, since Mysore is what you call it when it’s taught like it was/is taught in a specific place). That said, 👁 do sometimes do Mysore style Ashtanga yoga in the forest, when I️ practice with my teacher... who teaches in the forest (and isn’t Ana Forrest ;)). Forest yoga isn’t necessarily Forrest yoga, and ashtanga isn’t necessarily Mysore. I’m being a bit glib... but the drill down here highlights difference between appropriation and exchange, something we take seriously at #DCAshtanga. Check out a class with @gratefulweirdo in the Forrest tradition at @kaliyogadc and of course you can stick around to learn Ashtanga, Mysore style, with me, or one of our incredible teachers, who learned from someone who studied the method in Mysore (me!).

Musica universalis, literally the music of the universe. This music may not actually be audible, but is in fact observable in the relationship of movement and object proportions— particularly prescient when discussing celestial bodies— the sun, the moon... and perhaps also the human heart. Called “the harmony of the spheres,” science has observed changes in Saturn’s rings due to its own moons, gaps caused by a pull relative of the moon’s size. These gaps are observable from a distance, visible with the eye, yet the forces themselves can’t be seen. Music to hear without ears. A rhythm to the universe. A reminder of our own relative nature.

Even as she molded this flesh like clay, she knew it wasn't hers. The parts of me that stuck to her were as happenstance and inevitable as the parts of her that stuck to me. She was not god, not molding me in her image, but wanting only for me to find mine. And to love it. It's through a kind of grace I see her in me, as I see me in me. As I strive to see God in me, all the more. I feel lucky that I see me in her.
It's an alchemy, to teach a person to spin pain into love. It's an art to see God in all things. But pain has no owner. No shape, no form. There can be no ownership of the infinite.
You'd be surprised at which bone is said to be the holiest. A foot stepping down can feel like crushing bondage. Unmasked and inverted, that same foot can bring liberation. It can also be missed completely.

Primary, in the nook between my kitchen island and my tchotchkes and curio cabinet. What used to be a radiator now holds kitchen gadgets. I loved practicing next to the radiator because it was sooooo warm. Once, I somersaulted into the radiator -- ow! -- trying to get my hands to the floor in prasarita c. We've been through a lot together, this spot and I... in fact, it's my favorite spot to practice (radiator or no). @katelynntully
I learned to pretend to be a cat my first day of yoga. I didn't want to be called a cow. So funny how my sweet little ego bristled when confronted with something that sounded to it like a pejorative! As though our identity couldn't be anything we willed it to be? He hurt so badly.
Today, I'm pretending to be a very good contortionist with an absolutely infinite amount of options. It's all make-believe, afterall.
Inside of this, I'm also vowing to make a mudra, a gesture that conveys an idea, as @davidgarriguesyoga calls such things.
The idea being conveyed through this gesture? With right effort, you can feel the infinite amount of connections hidden within the universe and they all come back to a single point.
Can you see it? (I see a big ol' cow in there, too! 😂)

The seasons are changing.
I'm allowing myself to feel the change-- right down to wearing long sleeves. I'm also trying not to get too wrapped up in it. SwamiJ says that witnessing = observation + non attachment ; Rolf says "easy come, easy go."
Ashtanga yoga's primary series, as counted by Sharath Jois, can be completed in an unhurried manner at about the same rate as a full reading of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras in Sanskrit.
Today at @dcashtanga we practiced as Monorama (available on Spotify!) chanted to us. There are so many different layers to practice, I remain fascinated by what pierces through allowing me to be of this world and also internalized.
Humorously? Early on I heard "vrittayah pancatayah klishta aklishta" --1.5 Those gross and subtle thought patterns (vrittis) fall into five varieties, of which some are colored (klishta) and others are uncolored (aklishta). -- later? "shabda artha pratyaya itaretara adhyasat samkara tat pravibhaga samyama sarva bhuta ruta jnana" -- The name associated with an object, the object itself implied by that name, and the conceptual existence of the object, all three usually interpenetrate or commingle with one another. By samyama on the distinction between these three, the meaning of the sounds made by all beings becomes available.
The overlap between being objectified by people of power and situations where assault of the sexual variety occurs runs the risk of allowing "me too" to be viewed from the cheap seats as a bit of a toothless tiger.

Sexual harassment occurs constantly. I have been sexualized and demeaned to some degree in every job I've had as an adult. I suspect almost every woman/gay men have, too. I know almost every gal in town has been catcalled, for sure.

On a hierarchical level we have given passes to strong men taking sex acts by force. The amount of people who voted for a man who literally propagated grabbing woman by their pussies and doing whatever he wants with them needs addressing. "They'll let me," he says.

At least 16 women have publicly accused Trump of forcibly attempting to kiss, grope and have sex with them. He is on the record saying he forcibly touches woman.

This is not sexual harassment-- this is sexual assault.

What kind of accountability do we reasonably expect men in power to have when we give them a "yes, but" along with a "me, too" So glad we're speaking up: remember this in 3 years, fam. The more voices we raise, the more potential we create.

Take that "Me, too" and talk to you husbands, wives, sisters, brothers, and kids.

Me, too.
Like you do, @kayemjay1000 -- Kazalicious J thinks that this other heaux is named Barb-- we agree that she a middle aged divorcee who likes gettin' turnt and black dudes. She did NOT get the kids, but did get the house and that alimony because she waited out dat MFin prenup.
I owe my friends all the thanks: @pamelaxing for the face, @yoantoine for the wig, @mbwrld and @jrene01 for the dress. @kayemjay1000 for being just the best date a gal could ask for. Most of all @dfburke3 for his work for #MAMP
