I want Michael Jackson's unreleased material to find the light of day... but I secretly fear it will be as soulless as this video. Did anyone else read "Wrinkle in Time"? I hope for the happy medium.

I've been doing a lot of educational reading.
Yoga, yoga, yoga.
The topic of Batman managed to leach a few hours from me. Here is a round up/summary of whats been happening in the bat books over the past year.
I'm hoping Dick Grayson ends up as Bats, but thats just me.

Dear Mr. Mix-A-Lot,
When I was young, MTV wouldn't play your saucy, ass-laden video. Now, as anyone who knows me knows, I have an affinity for booty songs. Dirty, nasty, sing-songy booty songs.
I sing 'em at work. I sing 'em when I shower. I sing them with every bit of joy and mirth my tuneless, keyless voice will produce. Even friends know these songs by heart and will join in.
Why are you bastardizing my bliss?

Krista doesn't really allow me to go to Philly unless its a completely neccesary stop on a bus or train.
For as much as I like grime-grime-grime, I don't like over priced grime. Hence the reason she won't let us go.
Should we have a hankerin' for some Cheesesteak, this is where we'll go. I have to admit, Ritas takes care of my fix for italian/water ice. I discovered my joy of over-the-counter flavored ice in Harrisburg, but Mom used to buy Luigi's for the freezer.
Anyway, lets get cheesesteaks!

This 1986 Interview with Dolly Parton from 60 Minutes... ahhh... How I love Dolly Rebecca Parton.
"If this is trash, then I guess I'm trash."
"I've got a brain under this wig and a heart under these boobs."

Amazing.

That said, the service industry lends itself to a few unique perspectives in regards to human behavior. That is, bullshit better left at home.

There are very, very few sugary things that Fatty doesn't love. Peeps function in the same realm as Cadbury products, Recee's Peanut Butter Eggs, and Snicker's Nutcrackers-- I'm only allowed to eat them once a year.
Oh, the Peep. Shiny, glistening, glittery sugar! Delightful in my mouth, magic in the microwave. Much like baby giraffes and golden retrievers, I find you precious in your newborn form!
With this winning expose into Peeps, I'm reminded that that Chicago Tribune is going out of business, yes?

Thanks, Towleroad, for the best headline of my morning.
I'm from a part of the country where joining the military is a very real opportunity for those who don't wish to be farmhands or make less than 30k a year for the rest of their lives.
Louis Sheldon and Andrea Lafferty make some absurd statements in their arguments to keep the mo's out of the mil. I like that they also are concerned about about Drag Queens joining, and (in the same breath) imply that they're the same as transgender folk. All I can think of is the Eddie Izzard bit about Drag Queen Paratroopers.

Where Da Gold At?!
Geoffrey and I went down to the Dubliner, DC's oldest Irish bar/ restaurant, for some St. Patrick's Day themed food. I was craving corned beef & cabbage, and Geoff has his mind set on Shepherd's pie.
Rocks weren't the only things shammed on this trip. After a $10 cover charge just to get in ("come back tomorrow, it'll be free," says the bouncer) to the dining room, we were seated upstairs with super drunk woman in green pantsuits (and terrible makeup), as well as their stodgey 'til crunk white male counterparts.
The people watching was the best part: my meal came out tepid at best. I sent it back to get reheated. Geoff's shepherd's pie looked great, but apparently was only good.
I knew I could do better. Shepherd's pie is made with lamb or mutton, of which I found none-- today I instead made "Cottage Pie." I cut the meat down to a pound and threw in some yummy extra yellow onion and lots o' garlic.
G'luck, and Happy St. Fattrick's Day!

14th Street's getting a new coffee house, just above the not-quite-recently relocated Miss Pixies @ 1626 14th.
For those that don't know, I spent a good chunk of my early DC life as a barista/cocktail server at the Dupont South Cosi. We were the "other side of the tracks" Cosi, serving up scandal with our Double Oh! Arctic Mochas.
After becoming firmly disenchanted with my coffee options here in mid city, Daddy went out and got himself a french press and coffee grinder. Now I only grind freshly roasted beans every morning.
When I want a little treat, ACKC does a good job of filling my caffinated sweet tooth, but what about when I need to get off the couch and do some work? Where do I go?
Certainly not cruise-a-bou at 14th and Rhode Island. I'm excited!

I now have an every-10-minutes bus that stops at my house, the new Target, the Adam's Morgan Hemp Shop (Capitol Hemp), and a final destination next to the zoo.
Amazing.
And only $1.

On solstices and equinoxes we do a 108 sun salutations in the yogic tradition. During medaitation, when I'm silently spinning the beads on my mala, I have 108 beads before my guru bead.
But why? When one of my student's asked, I gave a few of the stock answers I knew off the top of my head (proportionate distance between the sun, most common denominators, etc).
Here's a good read.

Via Iconoculture:
"Part wall of shame, part blame game, part dark comedy â the online photolog ThisIsWhyYoureFat.com is straightforward data wrapped up in a complicated package of consumer emotions."
In the photo is a meatloaf cake, the frosting is (presumably) mashed potatoes, the decorative lettering atop? Ketchup.
I was so proud of my super healthy buffalo meat loaf from last week and after seeing this, I kinda wanna die. Ditto on the bacon-and-fudge danish I saw.

Courtesy of Monique's amazing art-and-life blog, Meristem Studio, I stumbled across this print on Etsy. It's gorgeous. Monique referenced it as haunting, and I'd can't say it beter.

This is a remix of the song that has been in my head for the past 8 years.
I sing this song *alllllll* the time. I love it.
I'm one step closer to finding the original.
JOY!

I fucking love this skit.
I'm always happy when I don't have much to do between 10 and 11. I like watching these two. I'd like to believe that this is what would happen if I were given a show.

Quick and engaging article about "Umami"-- something that rang a bell, but was deeply interesting to have spelled out.

Amazing.
It made me cry relentlessly.
I watched it before Milk, and unfortunately couldn't help but find myself comparing the drama to the documentary.
The documentary won the Oscar, deservingly so.

Amazing. This High School student has been posing as a chick to get naked photos of guys at his school. He's conned at least six of them to s'in a little D in the school bathroom, threatening to show the blackmail-y pictures of them all around school.

The really interesting thing here, I think, is the 1 in 5 statistic for those who have tried to take their own life. I'd not be surprised if the numbers were the same here in the USA. Also: One in Four seems low for the "beaten up" statistic.
