Hi, I’m Michael Joel Hall!

I’m a level 2 authorized ashtanga yoga teacher located in Washington, DC.
I’m deeply passionate about equality and social justice.
I love colors, the outdoors, and fitness.

Are you interested in learning yoga?

I teach an incredibly accessible practice for calming the mind and healing the body that’s suitable for all ages, races, religions, and abilities. Can’t touch your toes? No problem!

Tailored to the individual, absolutely anyone can benefit.

This practice helps people discover their true self: a fit body, a strong mind, and healthier relationships. Want to learn more? Click here.

As the director of DC Ashtanga, a yoga school located in Columbia Heights, DC, I teach one-on-one in a group setting. Nervous about getting started? I also provide private instruction.

Are you interested in bringing some peace to your stressful workplace?

Yoga is proven to bring greater physical and mental wellness into the office. Known for stress reduction, lower back relief, and decreased absenteeism, yoga has earned it’s good reputation.

Yoga at work works.

I’ve worked with thousands of individuals, having taught at the White House, the World Bank, a number of Fortune 500 companies, Law offices, hospitals, and schools.

Are you a seasoned practitioner interested in furthering your yoga studies?

I also teach workshops, host week long events and offer privates and semi-private sessions.

Wanna know a little more about me?

I’m a guy with a great love of the vast field of study that is yoga. An interest that is invaluably supported by my teachers: David Garrigues, as well as Rolf and Marci Naujokat, and of course by Sharath Jois. I say of course because I received the go-ahead to teach ashtanga yoga as taught in Mysore from him, as he’s the director of the K. Pattahbi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute.

Well before all that, I’ve been teaching hatha yoga techniques to folks. I’m so indebted to the love and care that was put into my practice early on by Kristina Maze, in the Sivanada tradition, and Kristen Krash, in the Iyengar method.

I grew up in a rural farming and fishing community, and did my undergraduate work in nonprofit public relations at george mason university.  I also have a background in comedy club hospitality [dc improv] that makes me think I’m funny. My students remind me I’m not.

You can learn even more about me here.

“Like Oscar Wilde goes to Sesame Street,” says one long-term teacher.

I’m easy to find on social media– the only other Michael Joel Hall I know is my Dad.
