I saw that @kingsdominionva is having trouble staffing it’s water park.

Life guards make $15/hr and other gigs pay $13.

I was a kid who worked full time during summer months (age 14-18).

I made $13/hr at the Virginia Renn Faire.

I was performing child labor (I was a child, and I labored).

This isn’t a livable wage as an adult.

So!

Am i to understand that this is a job for children?

When I was younger, they hired Russians and Ukrainians to come in and do it.

Because it wasn’t a livable wage 25 years ago.

And there weren’t enough children Virginian children who could labor.

Can anyone make the math work for $77.25/week to cover:

-Groceries

-Child Care

-Occupational Training (getting a lifeguard cert updated costs money)

-Mental Health Treatment (co-pays are still $25, even at a $550/month insurance rate)

-Retirement

The conclusion I draw:

@kingsdominionva has a business model that neccistates any of the following:

-child labor

-work visas for immigrants

-households with multiple incomes and a shared pool... where the other wage earner makes significantly more than $13-15/hr.
