Yogic Agency: The Practice on Purpose
There’s no secret to a transformative practice. Anyone selling one is selling something else.
What there is: yogic agency. The choice, every day, to show up with attention. To make the practice yours instead of just running the sequence. To notice what’s actually happening in your body and breath instead of executing a memorized routine.
This sounds obvious. It isn’t. Most people who’ve practiced for years are still on autopilot — moving through poses while thinking about email. The body learns the sequence and the mind goes elsewhere. The practice keeps happening but the practitioner has left the room.
Agency is the opposite. It’s choosing, this breath and this pose, to be here. The choice has to be remade constantly because attention drifts constantly. That’s not a failure. It’s the work.
Day 1 to day 365 isn’t about advancing through poses. It’s about whether you can keep choosing presence in the same posture you’ve done a thousand times. Whether the thousand-and-first time is fresh because you’re actually there for it.
The practice transforms people who keep showing up with that intention. It doesn’t transform people running through it on autopilot, no matter how many years they’ve put in. The hours don’t count if the attention isn’t there. The attention is the practice.
