The image features a text discussing a study on the effectiveness of exercise, particularly deadlifts, compared to SSRIs for treating depression. It includes a chart with various treatment methods and their effects on depression.
Text in image: They buried the lede on this new study. It’s not that exercise beats out SSRIs for depression treatment, but that *just* deadlifts has the largest effect of *any treatment* for depression. That’s kind of beautiful.

The image features a tweet from Bret Contreras, PhD, discussing weightlifting and training intensity. The mood is informative and motivational, aimed at encouraging readers to push their limits in the gym.
Text in image: The average lifter chooses to lift around 50% of their 1RM for around 10 reps, according to a recent meta-analysis. So if someone could lift 200 lbs for one rep, they’d select 100 lbs for a set of 10 reps.

With this load, they’re leaving around 10 reps in the tank – meaning they could do 10 more reps if they went all out (to failure).

This is the main reason why people don’t tend to see much results in the weight room. They just don’t train very hard.

If you want to build an appreciable amount of muscle, you have to train a lot harder than you think and push it a lot harder than the average lifter.

Those findings are also a potent reminder that if you are spending your time & effort on something (anything), you would be wise to ensure the wins position you to face further meaningful challenges not “finish lines”.
Effort-win-effort-win… (infinitely repeated)… is the key.

The image is a tweet from Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D., discussing the relationship between effort and success. The mood is reflective and informative.
Text in image: & yes, the effort must be related to the win. This all should be of consideration when thinking about what to spend your time on, why wins sometimes (but not always) amplify wins in subsequent challenges and generally, how the mind and body interact to yield & register “success”.

The image is a social media post by Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D., discussing the relationship between effort and testosterone levels. The mood is informative and analytical.
Text in image: Data from humans make it very clear: wins preceded by effort result in significant increases in testosterone. Wins not preceded by direct effort do not. (True for all people & across domains: physical, cognitive, etc. (although physical effort has its own impact too of course).
