Variations: Intermediate / Advanced Students

It pays to know many variations of poses so that you can teach whatever is appropriate for the class and/or individual students. In this case, pay particular attention to more advanced variations, added arm binds, and variations using the wall or props to focus on deepening particular actions. Here are some examples of fairly common beginning to intermediate asana that can be made more challenging with variations we’ve photographed for you. See the Asana Index for such poses as:
- Navasana (Boat Pose)
- Dhanurasana (Bow Pose)
- Ustrasana (Camel Pose) + Next Step: Laghuvajrasana
- Core Strengthening Exercises
- Natarajasana (Lord of the Dance Pose)
- Forearm Balance & Dolphin Pose
- Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon Pose)
- Prone Backbending – consider the many Salabhasana (Locust Pose) variations in particular
- Utthita Trikonasana (Extended Triangle Pose)
